Allyson Warkentin's Submission:

Just a few years ago I was sitting in a seat watching the MABBA provincials. A friend was competing and all I could think was wow. I wish I could do that but I could never cut out all the pizza and breadsticks. I had every excuse in the book as to why I could not do it. I have always been athletic but "bigger". I was the girl with the pretty face but was always chunky. At my heaviest I was 210 lbs and I felt horrible physically and emotionally. In march 2012 I started a new career that involved long hours and shift work. In a short amount of time I packed on 30 lbs. I was tired and sick all the time. I hated myself and had no energy. In January 2013 I decided to change my life and do something I would be proud of. I hired a trainer to show me all the basics. I worked hard and lost a few lbs but I wanted more. In October of 2013 my diet changed drastically, I was diagnosed with celiac disease, a gluten allergy. All the foods I loved so much I had to cut out. I continued to push further wanting more results and loving every minute. I signed up with Freak Fitness and decided I would commit to a bikini competition. In December 2013 I was diagnosed with Colitis. Yet another obstacle. I decided to take it as my body telling me to cut out the garbage and fuel it with what it needs. I've been able to maintain my health and overcome my illnesses. They are not an excuse. They keep me accountable. Some days are hard but it could be worse. I consider myself lucky because if I didn't stick to my diet I would be sick and miserable. These illnesses changed my lifestyle to healthy! I love that I can control the outcome. As of today I have lost over 70 lbs in just over a year. I am healthier and happier than I have ever been. Instead of being referred to as the bigger girl I am now considered the fitness freak! I am confident and I'm just getting started. I am so excited to showcase my hard work on the stage! I could not have done it without my boyfriend Kelly, my family, friends and of course Darren and Christina from Freak Fitness who continue to push and challenge me to be my best. There's no excuses! It's a choice. Live the life you want!
