Joey's Story (as nominated by his wife Jaclyn):

I believe my husband Joey Forever is most deserving of the Iron Will Award as he has not only inspired me, but everyone around him.

About 11 years ago at over 300 lbs, Joey never would've dreamed he would be competing on stage in a bodybuilding competition. Comments like "you'll never have abs" amongst many other hurtful remarks about his weight were only motivation to prove everyone wrong. If someone tells Joey he can't do something he takes it personally as a challenge to achieve it, and go beyond what was ever imagined. Joey always loved to lift and his love for bodybuilding along with following/researching some of his beloved idols (Arnold Schwarzenegger) kept him on track as he lost weight and started seeing results with his lifting.

October 2010 was when I heard the words I'll never forget. "I'm doing the bodybuilding competition in March". I couldn't believe it but knew he'd do it. Without wasting a minute he got started hardcore with the diet and lifting program. The determination was unreal! From watching him weigh each ounce of food to adding new routines with lifting to early morning cardio, Joey did everything and more to get his body into competition shape. On top of finding motivation to keep going, he also would continually encourage myself (and others) in a huge way, challenging me to reach my own goals, providing inspiration and believing in me. If his day didn't go as planned or he felt as though he could've made more progress he would always still find a way to make me feel good about my progress. Joey has been my rock throughout this entire journey to the competition. I have been able to be accountable and go to him with all of my struggles and fears and know that he can sympathize and help in a way that not many people could, even while he dealt with the emotional rollercoaster of his journey to the competition. Never throughout the months did I hear him say "I can't" or "I want to quit", not once!

It always brought a smile to his face when someone would say they'd lost weight or had gotten to the gym more often because of what they saw in him and his amazing results. Hearing compliments from random strangers at the gym about his transforming body only pushed him harder. At times when I could tell that he was completely burned out and exhausted he would be researching food plans. At 5:00 in the morning it was guaranteed Joey would be awake making sure he got in the correct food and cardio, even on weekends.

Over the years it's been truly amazing to watch Joey go from over 300 lbs to his lean competition body. I couldn't be more happy that he is living his dream goal and did not let the hurtful comments get the best of him.

My husband's determination is my inspiration.
