Justin Jenken's Submission:

I've been into lifting since I was about 15 years old, but could never get the results I was looking for. Never really stuck to a proper diet or strict, focused training routine. My last two years of university really did a number to my body, having gained roughly 70-80lbs of fat from age 20-22. I was partying and drinking a lot, smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, eating like crap and I had quit lifting and exercising entirely. I felt like crap and looked worse. I was very unhappy with the way my life was heading and was on the fast track to depression and surely other health concerns.

It was around May 2013 that I looked in the mirror, hated what I saw and decided to get back on track. So I cleaned up my diet somewhat, got myself back in the gym and started doing work! I was noticing some results about a month in but still not to the extent I would have liked.

At this point, even though the results weren't spectacular, I was ecstatic that I was starting to see some change. Being a gym rat for quite some time, it had always been a dream of mine to step on stage and compete in a bodybuilding competition... Although at the time it seemed like a bit of a pipe-dream, I decided to get myself some proper coaching and set my sights on March 29th – the provincial qualifier... This is what completely changed my life... I stuck to my diet and listened to my coaches to a tee and the changes I was started seeing were incredible.

At this point, I was so addicted to the gains and changes. My motivation was through the roof and I dedicated myself 100%. Things were changing faster than I would ever have imagined. With the help of my coaches, my goal of novice was not only becoming a possibility, but a reality.

Currently, I have lost a total of 60 pounds and have made some significant size gains. I have given up the party life and am leading a much healthier life style. I am also very proud to call myself a non-smoker!

Currently it is three weeks out from competition. Despite the outcome on March 29th, I truly feel like a winner with all of the changes I have made throughout this journey. Good luck to all the other competitors. I’ll see you all at the provincial qualifier! Train hard!
