Michelle's Story (Submitted by her husband Damir Gospic):

This story is about my wife, Michelle Gospic and about why I feel she is well deserving of the 2011 Iron Will Trophy as presented by Manitoba Amateur Body Building Association (MABBA) and Gorilla Jack Supplements.

Michelle with be celebrating her 50th birthday this summer and has set her life's milestone goal to compete at the Grandmaster level as well as her height class. She was athletic in high school and was first introduced to fitness when she was 18 years old. Michelle only stopped her regular physical activity twice in her life to take time out to have her two children Danica (18) and Marko (16).

Michelle had often talked about competing on a larger scale, however family needs always seemed to take precedence and time to dedicate oneself was scarce. As both teenage children became more independent, Michelle's journey started to take shape during the fall of 2010. At that time she was able to commit herself by working out at First Choice Fitness gym every morning from Monday to Friday for two yours. Additional training took place at home during the evenings and weekends for at least one hour each time.

Michelle was born with a bicuspid aortic valve i.e.) a valve that only has two leaflets versus the normal three. The aortic valve regulates oxygen enriched blood flow from the heart into the aorta. The bicuspid aortic valve is not completely effective at stopping blood from leaking back into the heart therefore making energy and breathing more difficult. Maintaining proper weight and a healthy and fit lifestyle helps reduce the heart's need to pump more oxygen enriched blood into one's body, meaning it has to do less work. In order to prevent open heart surgery in her later years, this condition that Michelle has plays a critical role in her motivation factor to stay healthy and fit at all times.

Michelle has made steady progress in her daily workout routines by shedding seven pounds to date with a goal to reach 125 pounds by competition date. Her stamina and energy level is at an all-time high as it has helped her sustain her busy lifestyle from morning to night.

Michelle grew-up within a family of five children four girls and one boy. Two of her sisters, now each in their forties and fifties are suffering with muscular dystrophy since their early teenage years. Although the remaining three siblings in her family have not been affected by this life threatening illness they still deal with congenital issues. Michelle has never lost sight of the fact that one must never take their god given health for granted. She maintains, lives and promotes a healthy lifestyle to all friends and family members.

Michelle has spent the better part of her last thirty years maintaining a healthy and fit lifestyle. Her long-term goals to maintain this type of lifestyle remain unchanged as she looks forward to continuing to remain physically active in the years ahead.

Sincerely,
Damir Gospic
Husband
