Michelle Mark's Submission:

I have always been a runner and considered myself to be in relatively good shape until it hit me in May 2013 that I was not. In May 2013 I ran one of the slowest half marathons I have ever run due to an extra 30 pounds I was carrying. 2 years of university had done a number on my body I was over 140 pounds and for a 5’3 girl I could not have felt worse. With my self-esteem dropping I decided it was time to make a change I started doing insanity 6 days a week and quickly lost 15 pounds (it was really unbelievable how quickly it had come off). However, by September I had come to a stall going through a rough personal situation I had stopped working out and began to fall into a deep depression and began putting some of the weight back on that I had previously lost. That’s when my number one fan (my mother) came into play.

She had recently started working with a trainer who she suggested I meet with since I had always thought about getting into lifting weights and getting into competing. From the moment I met with my coach I felt like a completely different person! I was so motivated to get up every day and work out, eat healthy and live this lifestyle and it was amazing how quickly my life changed. I instantly started to feel like a happier person and realized that I deserved to do this for me! It has defiantly had its challenges, especially while still being a university student balancing courses and workouts has been a challenge but I am proud to say I have not missed a workout in over 5 months.

As of today I am down over 30 pounds and 20 inches and my life has completely changed, not only do I look at myself differently I have realized what eating healthy and being healthy is really all about. I have learnt so much from my trainer who helps keep me going each and every day! Although I am still apprehensive about getting up on that stage on March.29th I realize that it does not matter what place I come in or what others think. I have worked so incredibly hard and have been 100% dedicated to my program that I have earned my moment on stage and have beat the most important person myself, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would get to the point I am at today and I could not be prouder!!
