Reuben's submission:

2004, 17 years old, 5'6", 215lbs. I was an average teenager that went to high school in the morning and worked on the farm with my dad in the evenings. I enjoyed hanging out with my couple of local friends in my home town of Plumas, MB. I tried my best to fit in with the crowds at school, but since I was homeschooled from kindergarten until Grade 9, I really lacked any sort of social exposure.

One of the major issues I had was my weight. I used to be a small child that played lots, rode bicycle and went swimming in the summers, but when my older sisters started to move away from home, I started to turn to food and the T.V. for my entertainment. Over a short couple of years I ballooned up with body fat. At times I would rent movies with my friend and we would eat a 4L pail of ice-cream and 3-4 large bags of potato chips in an evening.

I hated my life and felt like no one accepted me in school. I started watching the first season of the show "the biggest loser" and on its last episode, the trainers said: "If you are overweight and not happy with what you look like, then make it your New-year resolution to do what these people have done and switch your life around". Those words got me motivated and on Jan 1st 2005 all I did was eat 2 meals a day which totalled 700 Calories, and I did a minimum of 1 hour of weight training a day, cardio a minimum of 5 days a week, and 1,000 crunches every single night.

I did that for 3 months and dropped an amazing 70lbs. I went from 215lbs to 145lbs in 3 short months. But, in that time, I lost large amounts of muscle. I also started binge eating and of course, turned bulimic because I felt guilty about binging.

Ever since the extreme weight loss, I have been a typical yoyo dieter that fluctuated around 30lbs every single year. But, I have also continued to lift weights and further my education on diet and fitness.

I have a wife and child at home, and a second one on the way this fall. I am working in Shilo, MB. as an instructor on military courses. The work load is extremely heavy and usually demands 6 days a week and working on average 8-10 hours a day, and even sometimes a lot more.

I get up at 3am every morning to do my weight training in my local gym, come home, shower, pack my meals up and make it to work (half hour drive) for 7am every day. When I get home in the evenings, I do my best to spend some time with my family while I precook the next days meals, carry out some extra work that I brought home and any other odds and ends I can get done before I pass out at 9:30.

I have loved the process of contest prep and plan to keep into fitness for as long as I can. I love my wife for supporting me, because I could never have done it without her.
