Stacey Thomson's Submission:

My name is Stacey Thomson and I am 19 years old. I am a full time student at Assiniboine Community College in my second year in the business administration program. I am currently living in Brandon, MB and training with Katy Unruh to compete in MABBA Novice in figure on March 23.

Ever since I was a little girl I have always been over weight. I was always self-conscious about the way I looked and I didn't like it. I was a stress eater and didn't know how to handle it any other way. I remember crying when I was a little girl to my parents asking them why I wasn't as skinny and pretty as my other friends at school. The picture I have attached of me in a black dress was three years ago when I was in grade 11. In grade 12 I went shopping with my mom for a grad dress and I fell in love with one of them. The only problem was, there was only one size and when I put it on I had a huge amount of back fat and I hated the way I looked. I wasn't going to let my weight decide which dress I would wear at grad so I decided to do something about it. I went and joined a gym and started working out every day. I did use body by Vi for three months but quickly stopped using that when I wasn't full on the shakes any more. I did contact a trainer and had one session with her and followed her plan for the following 6 months.

I started my transformation in January 2011 and by grad in June I finally looked the way I wanted to. I lost around 40 lbs in that 6 months time. I changed my life. I didn't just hit the gym everyday but I also changed my eating habits. I chose healthier foods and didn’t eat as big of portions. My family was very supportive. The last picture I attached is a before and after picture. The red dress I am wearing is my graduation day and the dress I fell in love with. This transformation led me to love the gym and myself. Going to the gym is a great way for me to get rid of stress instead of eating. In November 2012 I decided to start training with Katy Unruh and that has been the one of the best decisions I have ever made. She has taught me so much and is always there for me. In December I decided I was going to set another goal for myself and compete in MABBA in March. Since training with Katy I have lost 7% in body fat and I feel great. This goal has been one of the most challenging things I have ever done but I am continuing to push myself and reach it! I have attached two more pictures of what I look like currently. I have abs for the first time which feels amazing! In the picture of the three girls I am the one on the left in posing practice for the upcoming show. I would love for people to hear my story and hope that I can inspire someone. I want people to realize that they can do anything they set their mind to and are always able to make time to get in shape. I get up at 530 in the morning during the week just so I can get my workout in. I never thought I would ever be this skinny and feel so self-confident and if I could change someone’s life with my story that would be amazing. I hope to continue training with Katy after this competition and hopefully be sponsored so I can continue to enter more competitions in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read my story!
