Steve Van Vlaenderen:

I would like to take this opportunity to share an inspiring story with you. I want to tell you about Steve Van Vlandaeren.

Steve's story is not your typical athlete's story. You see, Steve is 66 years old. Steve also has Parkinson's Disease. Despite this, what most people would call challenges at the very least....Steve will be competing in first EVER bodybuilding competition in three weeks time. He works harder than most bodybuilders I have met that are less than half his age. I know, because I am his coach and I have competed against the very best in Canada on many occasions.

Quietly, with determination, Steve has managed to get into the best shape of his life. Eating a very Spartan diet, and pushing his body to the limit. This is hard for anyone. Now imagine doing it without complete control of your body. Fighting through tremors. Never mind the fact that Steve is 66 years old!

He no longer takes meds for Parkinsons. Exercise and nutrition are his medicine now.

In bodybuilding, one has to have complete mastery over movement. The ability to pose, and make it look effortless while flexing every muscle in the body, without shaking, with a smile on your face. Even though during a contest, one is depleted, tired and under intense scrutiny by the judging panel. This is a massive challenge for Steve.

Last thing. You may ask your self, "why would a 66 year old man with Parkinsons do this to himself?". Well two reasons.

1. Because he can.
2. To show others to never give up, no matter what, because the only limits we have, we place upon ourselves!"
